The Park is located at wide mountain region in the northwestern part of Montenegro, surrounded by rivers Piva and Tara and there are 23 mountain tops over 2300 meters of altitude. Park is 39000 acres large and includes 82 kilometers of canyon of the Tara with altitude of 1600 meters above river level.

The Durmitor region is a key part of the Dinara mountain range, known for its towering peaks, lush forests, and deep gorges. The Tara Canyon, the largest in Europe, is home to over 1,500 plant species and 130 bird species. The park also features 17 glacial lakes, with Bobotov Kuk standing as Montenegro's highest peak at 2,522 meters.

This grandiose mountain massif, with its beauty and uniqueness attracts attention of all visitors, especially tourists. Relief is jagged, with numerous peaks, gorges, steep slopes, alps-like river valleys and other natural phenomena. There are several zones in National Park Prokletije: Karanfilsko-Bjelicki (most rugged part of the area, with numerous peaks over 2,000 meters above sea level); Visitorsko; Zona Bogicevica; Zona Bora and Kofiljace; Stratacko-Zavojska zone. Glacial lakes, large and small streams, springs and wells of drinking and mineral water, rivers, underground aquifers and mountain ponds will leave you breathless.

As the largest lake in the Balkans, Lake Skadar, straddling the Albania-Montenegro border, is Montenegro's version of Windermere or Loch Lomond—an expansive playground for kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards. For over 40 years, the Montenegrin side has been a protected national park, offering thrilling adventures like cruises to former prison islands or monasteries, visits to lakeside vineyards, and biking along the shoreline. While the stunning horseshoe bend of Pavlova Strana is often highlighted, it actually belongs to the Rijeka Crnojevica River within the national park, not the lake itself.
